I have 500 server errors since this morning on all my apps on my plan. I believed it's was because I misconfigured my .htaccess on my drupal site but when I tried my other drupal test site, I received these errors instead of the normal page. It happened when I installed a module called db_maintenance used to optimize drupal tables. if it's my fault and if it impacts other users, I apologize. I've removed this potential guilty module, and I'm just waiting what I have to do to make my site back again.

They're a pretty good host, decent specs (more than 300MB if I remember correctly, I don't really need much storage space), and they don't require linkbacks/ads. Problem is, they run an old version of PHP, with very few useful extensions enabled (not even PDO), and they refuse to upgrade anything for free accounts. The support is quite frankly pathetic; support tickets are worthless and you *might* get help on the forums.

The uptime is very good, I could compare stats but I think it's on about the same level as Vlexo. I don't ever remember noticing outages, except for the occasional "server is too busy". They don't have an interview system, and they host a massive number of sites, so when there is downtime it's a DDoS or something... basically, it's a bit less stable.

I switched to Vlexo for my latest site because of PHP 5.3, but overall it seems more solid and professional than 000webhost.

I am using a PC with Dual-Boot system with Windows and Linux-Mint installed in it. And I have to e honest, after installing some eye-candy application and Compiz effects and all... I am in love with Linux mint and don't even remember when I last booted to Windows!!! :-D

However, I have a doubt that is Linux prone to Virus? I know .exe files can't be executed without simulation in linux but, is there anything else which may attack my PC?

When I googled about this, I got a lot of different opinions. Some say its not at all required and some say it is required.
Avira and many anti-virus are available to Linux as well! I am confused. Want to know your opinion on this.

Is an Antivirus or something like that required for Linux? How can I protect my PC running Linux?

In New Zealand the “ Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment act was passed on April 13 2011 and has been law since September 1 2011. This widely unpopular law was passed while our government still had “emergency powers” following the then recent February 22 Christchurch Earthquake that killed 181 people.

The provisions of this bill make it easier for copyright holders to identify and prosecute anyone they suspect of violating copyright. The law generally penalises people who download torrents through P2P software like “Gnutella”, “Bit torrent”, and “uTorrent” but it also extends to people simply file sharing copyrighted content.

But what makes this law highly odious is that “any” person accused of breaching copyright is automatically presumed guilty. The accused has to present evidence that they did not breach copyright while the copyright holder can accuse on mere suspicion. There is no other law in my country that presumes someone guilty until proven innocent.

This law functions under the principle of the “three strikes and you’re out" concept.

Strike 1: you receive a notification letter from you ISP that you have been suspected of downloading “copyrighted content”.

Strike 2: is essentially a threat letter from your ISP advising you to cease downloading copyrighted content or face consequences.

Strike 3: This is the business end of things. Essentially this is the “enforcement” notice. It allows the copyright holder to take you to the Copyright Tribunal. If found guilty you can be fined from NZ$275 up to NZ$15,000 all of this is payable to the copyright owner.

In short this law sucks and the politicians who were vigorously in favour have little idea of how the internet works in a practical sense. This law isn’t as extreme as SOPA or future legislation that may resemble it. It does however threaten New Zealand’s Internet neutrality and sets a bad precedent for equally narrow minded politicians internationally.

I support all efforts by the online community to keep the Internet neutral and free. Basically I like the fun and freedom that Internet neutrality protects.
