Hello free users,

We are in the current proposition of changing all accounts 'subdomains' on the free server (challenger) to update to this domain name: vlexo.net instead of vlexo.com!

What?

This means that any user that uses our subdomain service will be converted from 'vlexo.com', to 'vlexo.net', so if you are utilizing say: vlexo12.vlexo.com, that would be changed to vlexo12.vlexo.net.

Re-direction service

We understand people have advertised their websites and they have traffic going to their current subdomains, so we are offering a FULL re-direction service, where we will redirect your subdomain to your NEW URL (Vlexo.net).

To utilize this subdomain redirection service, please email me at: request@vlexo.org, with the following:

Username:
Password:
Subdomain:
Notes:

Please explain what you want re-directed and why.

Why are you doing this?

At the moment, I'm not willing to discuss why I'm doing this, however I can tell you that we are doing this within good reason. We've had our share of problems, and we hope to relieve some of the stress we have been having by doing this.

When are we doing this?

Starting sometime today, we will turn every account hosted under the subdomain (Vlexo.com) to update to our domain name. (Vlexo.net)

Data loss

None.

What about those who use their own domains?

You need not worry.

NOTE: NOT ALL ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO ABIDE BY THESE CHANGES, THESE CHANGES WILL FOLLOW SOMETIME TODAY OR TOMORROW!

Regards,

Jonathan Jones

      Hello,

Seeing as no-one has taken interest in this thread, I will have to change the subdomains either way. I will do this tonight, please do not complain that your website is down. Our TOS explains that you must keep yourself updated on situations such as this, by visiting our forums.

      Thank you.

      Hi,

Just to clarify, One user such as secret_player for example, as he was asking me, will have 2 domains such as: pfg.vlexo.com and pfg.vlexo.net?

Nope. You would just have the vlexo.net subdomain.

However as said, if you have traffic going to the .com, we can always make up a re-direct for you.

Hey sorry I didn't read this post first when I posted in the free hosting support forum, but thanks for the help anyway.  I hope this helps make Vlexo an even better place to have hosting!

So there is no way to have .com anywhere on my domain? Just .net? I'm still a little confused since it's not totally clear unless I'm missing the point or something. Cause I like .com but if there is no way to stay like .com, I will have to do A LOT of changing to do.

      Let Me try..

      1. Your actual site will be located at  yoursubdomain.vlexo.net .

this means you will login to cpanel at : http://yoursubdomain.vlexo.net/cpanel  OR http://vlexo.net/cpanel

Now you will not be able to log on vlexo.com .

      2. How ever (if u make a request) you will get a subdomain : yoursubdomain.vlexo.com. (this is not a cpanel account ).

So if someone calls subdomain.vlexo.com he actually goes to yoursubdomain.vlexo.net.

      3. Yes, in case u had a forum installed at yousubdomain.vlexo.com/forum it has to be changed to yousubdomain.vlexo.net .

But i think most of the scripts will not need any reinstallation.. and you just need to change the parameters as required. Ofcourse if u meant that u have used the vlexo.com several times in ur web pages (html) u will need to edit them.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I have a theory on why this change is occurring.

I believe that this change is occurring in precaution to any future Challenger sever problems and Vlexo being down.  Since in the past the Vlexo domain has been hosted on the Challenger server these down times caused the whole vlexo site to go down (while Gravity accounts still functioned).  So in order to stop these occurrences you took the Vlexo domain Challenger and put the new Vlexo.net domain onto the Challenger server where upon all the accounts hosted it (aka the free hosting accounts) had there URL changed from somethin.vlexo.com to somethin.vlexo.net. Effectively isolating any problems on the Challenger Server to the Challenger server.

You are mostly correct! Though the issue into why we are doing this has been addressed in the announcements forum. ;)

Ok I do get 1 and 3 but 2. What do you mean that if someone calls subdomain.vlexo.com he actually goes to subdomain.vlexo.net? Does it mean that if I request the redirection, i can still get .com but the cpanel will still be .net? I am really sorry guys, still confused.

      Yes, That is correct.

For example If someone goes to davey.vlexo.com they would be redirected to davey.vlexo.net :)

As Davey Said .. Yea.. You Got it Right.

its just like the way free url redirection services work .. say you create "somedomain.co.nr"  and it gets redirected to "somedomain.vlexo.net" .

Thats It. Of course your cpanel is located at vlexo.net NOT at .co.nr..
