New server has arrived!

The new server our free users will be moving onto, will have a different host name, instead of reliability it will be named 'magnet', meaning that this server is essentially going to be a magnet for potential users to use our service. I truly believe with WiredTree that our service will literally become a magnet once we make the switch, as they are an awesome service and our new backbone. Quality will jump and network downtime will be a thing of the past. The server also looks pretty neat, updates on the move will be posted on the blog.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The move will be tomorrow afternoon (21st) and all accounts will be moved over, prior to the move over, I will be sending out an email to all users hosted on the server currently; informing that a move will be taking place. I suspect there won't be any downtime however DNS propagation will take place and we will of course change DNS once all accounts have been moved over, so if you have an active forum, expect to lose a post or two if posts are posted at an unlucky time or if DNS hasn't propagated!

And as a 'for your information' we are installing all the languages (programming) that we have currently and more languages which were requested.

The IP will be different, but the nameservers will remain the same.

any feature changes on the new server ? or all the same ? php version ? mysql ? maybe also ssh and fcgi (you know I love to see those on vlexo.com as well :-)  )

wonderful thank you very much for configuring fcgi!

about ssh is there any way to get it ? setup feed ? or proving identity ? it is much easier to have ssh enabled.

Any chance in seeing the latest verion of Apache and PHP on this server?

I am not sure if php 6 is ready for production uses as it is at development at the moment. But as fcgi is going to be activated you are vlexo.com is able to run different php versions at one time on one server. So maybe we are going to see php-6 ? also I do not recommend using development versions.

I expect many, many API breaks until PHP6 is released, so dont do it.

Also PHP6 lacks Magic Quotes and Safe Mode (yaaay!) which may break some stuff (along with certain errors moving category).

My advice to all your PHP devs out there is to enable E_STRICT and enjoy

Ok, looks as if the transfer is taking place tomorrow. I'm running into some problems with some transferred accounts and it looks as if I'll have to restart the transfer and do everything again! Don't worry guys, the complete transfer won't be complete, until I know websites are working fine.
