Instead of having that other thread one the front page of these forums, I thought I'd give an update towards what will happen to Vlexo's services/forums. The announcement of these changes were first announced here, on the Vlexo blog.
Design changes
We have our new design and are awaiting for it to be coded, then we will start adding content to it. It is a really nice design and is a huge change from the current black & white design. Plus we will have the main website fully working and functional before we upload anything.
Sign up changes
We will be using a system called iPanel, which is a 'form' sign up, or automated sign up; which we can approve and disapprove accounts with just one click. This will mean the end to applications being submitted via our forums, however the sign up will be just as challenging, in terms that you will still have to submit in the application the one hundred word description of your website.
New packages
With posting for hosting being an ideal way to get these forums more active, we are introducing; posting for hosting packages. Which will offer a considerable amount of bandwidth/webspace/databases for a certain amount of posting per month. Posting for hosting is where by example, you would post on these forums every month, instead of having advertisements on your website. Not only are we introducing new posting for hosting plans, we will also be changing the current packages slightly. Let me also just add, that ALL current users on the current packages, your packages will not change.
There will also be a 'forced ads' package, by where ads will be forced on one's website, and the only advantage of this, is that you will get a higher percentage in databases/bandwidth/space when in comparison to our other packages.
Forum changes
Currently, we are waiting for vBulletin v4.0 to be released, then we will make a forum upgrade. However since it will be quite a while till that is released (Or so I think), before that, we will have the forum integrated into the new design; to make it look more of an official forum and might introduce more traffic and involvement into the community. There will also be changes within the forums itself, and some may be merged, added and possibly deleted.
With these changes on the way, we should be back on track to growing to a much larger based free web host!
Thanks for reading,
Jonathan
