I am not too happy about this amount of downtime!

But heres what happened.
  • I was sleeping
  • User mathsx overloaded the server
  • Server crashed/froze
  • 4 hours later I work up to find the server had been down
  • I submitted a support ticked to get the server manually rebooted.
  • Server is up and running.
  • I post this topic explaining what happened.

Total downtime was ~4 hours, 19 minutes.

      Hey Eli L,

      Thanks for the update :)

downtime didnt affect me much to be honest - just mean I was bored for a few hours!

      Thanks again

      Joe

After im done transferring this batch of account im going to define some limits in PHP for a forced memory limit and maximum stack depth to try to prevent something like this from happening again.

how come no one at the datacenter manually rebooted it? why did they have to wait for you to tell them to? seems a little poor on their behalf

His script forked like a billion processes and the server ran out of memory and froze. I've been finding ways to protect the server ever sense.
