The computers forum looked empty to me. XD

What do you all run as your computer OS? (Just out of curiousness)
How would you rate each OS and what would you say about it?

I personally Windows 7 Ultimate on my main desktop along with a dual boot of Ubuntu. Windows 7 is nice in my opinion, a helluva lot better then vista. I don't use my ubuntu side as much, mainly for testing larger applications without having to upload to a VPS or testing place. Also use it to compile stuff for linux. Ubuntu is quite friendly overall, and apparently it's the only linux flavor my computer will handle (kernel bugs up after a few boots in CentOS, Fedora doesnt even start without locking up, etc..).

Well you're not going to get any skills making an OS while using nothing but windows.

      I'm using win xp 32 64 , vista and windows 7 but I spend a lot of time on Xp and 7 because vista is very tricky ... { it's good to use all of them for testing websites }

OoOoOo some activity in the computer forum!

Ok, I have (personally) 2 machines:
      • MacBook 13" Unibody - OS X 10.6
      • eMachines 120 - Windows Server 2003/Ubuntu 9.10/AsteriskNOW! (It varies, depending on how I feel that month :P )
And then 2 more, (i.e. "Family Machines")) one running XP Home and the other Ubuntu.

I got server 2003 through microsoft DreamSpark , if you're a student it's well worth looking at :)

      Joe
      Kind Regards,

I'm running windows 7 and I love it. Got it way back when it was only in RC Beta but upgraded it when it expired. I also run XP for those games/apps that dont run on seven, and ubuntu for other things.

That's good to hear. I still run XP for my primary desktop & laptop and have had really no issues with it. I run it with all visual enhancements disabled - can you still do that with 7? I don't really need any flashy UI effects. I also run Debian lenny (with the dotdeb php 5.3 stack) to host internal source control, databases, a wiki and to emulate a production server for deployment and build scripts. I use it to build & test the open source client for Eternal Lands as well.

Oh yeah, you can run it without all that flashy stuff just like in XP. :P. I used to do that before I stepped up my graphics card. I use Ubuntu for compiling source since the games I design are (just recently) designed to be Cross-Platform. I use my school's Macincraps for compiliing on macs.

That's bound to tick someone off...lol
I have 2 macs in the house, 1 desktop and my dads laptop. About to get a third. The desktop is 10.4 mac with bootcamp for games, mainly my computer since i managed to personalize it to the extent of un-usability by anyone else. My dads laptop is... his... runs 10.5. Its the white plastic old kind. Hes getting a new air with ssd i think that's the final descision.

Personally i would prefer to have an HP Firebird, but my dad acts like a windows is a sin... so i stick to bootcamp.

Hooray triple booters! I was about to triple boot my mac "mac windows linux" but my hd is only 140 and my sisters itunes is about 30gb, bootcamp partition is 40, and the other 70 is crammed with crap.

I use Linux almost all of the time. I do cross-platform development from my Linux machine, because either way I can't stand win32 API and C++ is my language of choice. I like having control of my OS from command line, I would die if I had to use a GUI to terminate processes or fix a problem.

I have XP on dual boot for playing games, wine and vmware don't cut it for the best graphics and DirectX.
