Hi,
I am really unsure about this because i don't wan't to recell the battery or buy a new one
I have a compaq Evo N610c (Pretty dull huh) and am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS
I have previously been running Windows 7 (which i don't like as much as Linux) and Windows XP (which looks horrible)
In all OS's I have had problems with battery life.
I think the battery is at fault but could be my lead.
It only holds 5 mins charge then    poof it's off
Is the battery unable to hold charge or is the lead not providing enough power

Note: I'd like to note that my battery only every charges to 98% and stops, i have only charged it to 100% a few times

If the battery is under three months old then it's definitely a bad battery. Also, if you have your laptop plugged in a lot then that does mega damage to you battery. I had that problem with my old laptop it wouldn't ever charge to 100% so I bought a brand new battery and it worked fine. So make sure you don't always have your laptop plugged in. Also, some computers have the option of "Airplane Mode" which stops charging your battery and just directly powers your computer.

I had that problem too. My battery lasts for 10 minutes or less. It's annoying because its like a portable desktop computer. First I've consulted it to where I've bought it and they've found out that my battery is faulty. I bought a new one and now I can use it for almost 2 hours unplugged. Have you consulted the manufacturer? :)
